Introduction

The Engineering Department has the enormous task of keeping the ship working; they are responsible for making repairs, fixing problems, and making sure that the ship is ready for anything. Since the early days of space travel, no group has worked harder to conquer space than the Engineers. Few people in the history of humanity have earned more respect than the miracle workers who brought us to the stars. Neil Armstrong, Zephram Cochrane, Charles Tucker III, Montgomery Scott, Geordi La Forge are all household names of people who have built, maintained and used the technology to explore those strange new worlds.

Many people think that all Engineers are builders. This is false! The role of the UFS Engineer can also be for roleplays. RP Engineers are equipped with the latest and greatest tools that UFS can provide. Haven't you ever dreamed of fixing a warp core breach at the last moment or bringing back main power at a critical moment of a space battle? These are just some of the activities that a Roleplay Engineer can accomplish.

An important aspect of our division is Attitude and it has a key role on how this division operates. Poor attitudes will not be tolerated. Furthermore, disrespecting someone’s skill or Roleplay quality will not be tolerated. With time and practice, every engineer improves his skills. We, as a team, constantly seek to improve our abilities and help each other as much as we can. As a Branch, we are only as good as our newest member.

Office Staff

Branch Commander

The Branch Commanders of UFS are leaders in the immersive experience offered by United Federation Starfleet. They do this by offering their knowledge and passion of the aspects of their branch to other members in the form of Role Play, Activities and Education.

Role Play can vary from something as simple as in character technical discussion, to reports on ship repairs and maintenance to the design and construction of a new starship. Fun Activities is such a huge catch all it defies solid definition but ideas can range from things like sharing themed recipes for things like Warp Plasma Stew, Keeping up to date and sharing interesting news stories and development of real life technology, hosting some get togethers to chat on particular things seen in an episode of Star Trek, the list is endless. They also work with UF Starfleet Academy to assist in the development and maintenance of the content in the colleges.

The Branch Commanders are also the primary representative of the branch to UFS Command, advising them on matters of the branch and the members in it by maintaining communication with both.

Branch Commanders are expected to create branch-specific role play storylines, as well as fun activities, and set a proper atmosphere for their branch. An example of a roleplay would be fixing a conduit, running diagnostics or something bigger like constructing a starship. . Fun Activities can include game nights, getting to know you sessions or branch brainstorming on new procedures. All of this can be done by keeping up to date on the Forums, Social Media and even Discord,

Vice Branch Commander

The Vice Branch Commander is responsible for assisting the Branch Commander with the day to day organization and running of the branch. Often a supportive role the Vice Branch Commander will mimic the Branch Commander in their absence and work alongside them to achieve goals and objectives.

Engineering Positions in UF Starfleet

Chief Engineering Officer

Serving out of Engineering, this senior officer is responsible for keeping all parts of the ship working, assigning engineers to fix those that aren't.

Vice Chief Engineering Officer

Keeping a vessel working is one of the most complicated jobs around, and as such, as Assistant Chief Engineering Officer serves to assist the Chief Engineering Officer; often also serves at the engineering station on the bridge.

Warp Drive Specialist

Specialists are often specific to a single class of ship, due to the complexity of various systems. The officer in this position specializes in warp drive propulsion.

Impulse Drive Specialist

Specialists are often specific to a single class of ship, due to the complexity of various systems. The officer in this position specializes in impulse drive propulsion.

Temporal Drive Specialist

Specialists are often specific to a single class of ship, due to the complexity of various systems. The officer in this position specializes in temporal drive propulsion, which is commonly used in time travel.

Communications Specialist

Communication aboard ship/facility takes two forms: voice and data. Both are handled by the computer system, but their vastness and complexity requires specialists to help maintain and repair them.

Matter/Energy Specialist

All aspects of matter and energy transfer, with the exception of the warp drive system, are handled by these specialists.

Structural/Environmental Systems Specialist

Maintaining the internal dampening, structural integrity, and environmental systems is not an easy job; it is fulfilled by these trained specialists. These specialists are also responsible for managing damage control during and after battles, and often best know the strengths of the entire engineering team and how to utilize them for repairs.

Sensor Maintenance Specialist

Sensors are an integral part of any Starfleet vessel, providing necessary information for navigation and scientific research. These specialists oversee the maintenance of all sensors on board a ship, and provide necessary modifications when needed.

Shuttlecraft Maintenance Specialist

When transporters are not an option, shuttles are used to transport crew to and from locations. Maintenance specialists are needed to ensure that all shuttles are fully operational, and ready to be used on a moment's notice. They also oversee and perform any necessary repairs to the shuttles on board.

Their duties may also extend to maintenance and repair of fighter squadron vessels.

Computer Systems Specialist

Ships and vessels are dependent on very sophisticated computer systems; these specialists are responsible for maintaining them.

Engineering Officer

Non specialized engineers serve on all vessels to perform most of the standard maintenance and repair tasks.
