Biography | |||||
Born in 2395 to a family that settled in Vienna on Earth.
Father is a Bajoran native of Hathon, Bajor who relocated to Earth in his youth and participated in Western Classical art music circles as a composer. He rose to prominence as an academic in the 2380s after taking scholarly interest in the 2376 encounter of the USS Voyager EMH with the Qomar, a society previously unexposed to human-type music. Mother was an administrator in Starfleet Terraform Command. Of South Slavic origin, she took great pleasure replicating Dalmatian landscapes in her earlier service. Though she has retired from the agency, her work continues as a visual artist, who regularly paints settings from projects she has administered. Philip himself, with the exception of barely-perceptible nose ridges, would easily pass for a human given his childhood and early life spent in Vienna. Perhaps aided by his father's religious ambivalence, Philip was not raised in any faith. His distance from Bajoran customs and inadherence to Bajoran religion prove to be a tense factor with relatives from his father's family. Due to several careless cultural/religious blunders and faux pas, Philip has been banned from most religious sites on Bajor - a fact his Bajor-side family is not aware. While Philip does not feel entirely at-home on Earth and on Bajor, a deep fascination with the historical cultures of both flows strongly in him. Before entering UFS, Philip pursued a career as a performer (vocal) of Earth Western Classical art music, earning a civilian conservatory education. Often featured in performances of his father's works, Philip and his family gained significant comfort after producing, to great success, a series of operas fusing Bajoran themes with historical works of Mozart. The family now owns a small parcel on on Andros in the Bajor system, hoping to offer it as an artistic estate for humans, Bajorans, and others who take interest in performing and studying the musical traditions of their respective societies. Inspired by UFS's encounters with alien societies of great diversity and frustrated by the back-and-forth uncertainty of his Bajoran-human identity, Philip decided to enter the Academy in 2422 to sit at the forefront of cultural exchange with newly-contacted species. | |||||
