Biography
Kesri Hesse was born on September 18th, 2396 at Rixx, Betazed. She is 3/4 Andorian and 1/4 Aenar (a subspecies of Andorians who are normally blind and telepathic). Her maternal grandmothers were Aenar. As such, her mother was 1/2 Aenar and telepathic (blind in one eye), and served with the federation posted to Betazed to learn to control her telepathic abilities. Both of Kesri's mothers were 1/2 Aenar (if this was intentional, or a result of the shortage of quad partners on Andor, Kesri doesn't know). Kesri inherited those telepathic abilities and was lucky enough to have full eyesight. Between her mother and being born and raised with betazoids, she learned to use them. She can read thoughts, emotions, speak to others telepathically (which was the primary method of communication for her growing up on Betazed, and could be considered her "first language". She can even project herself into the mind of another who normally isn't telepathic, although this requires a great deal of mental focus, a reasonably close proximity (like within the same city block, on the same ship, etc), and is quite draining to do (as such, it isn't something she would do lightly). Being Andorian, she fits the stereotype of being a bit impulsive, aggressive at times, impatient, and blunt to a fault. On Betazed, people are very open, honest, and direct, so her brash bluntness not only didn't really offend then, frankly they would have sensed if she was holding back and that might have offended them. However, in her early teens she began to travel, to experience new cultures, and people tended to be different in those assessments of her. She had to learn to either control what she says about people's thoughts or emotional states, or to choose to "tune them out" (focus a bit on not reading them at all, much like humans choose not to look at something they can plainly see). In time she found that people treated her differently when they realized she could read their thoughts, and made a conscious choice to to tell most people that she was telepathic at all, as being "biologically" Andorian (Aenar has virtually the exact same DNA, and only a deep DNA scan would even show the Aenar in her), no one really thought she might be telepathic unless she informed them. Thus, most don't even know she is telepathic, she goes to a good deal of trouble to hide that she is, and only mentions people's emotions or thoughts if she has a plausible other way she could have been able to tell (IE, body language), and she only shares that fact with very close people that she feels she can trust. Once she has informed someone, she is a little more free with them.
