Biography | |||||
Born on Vulcan to human parents Merc Thatcher and Charlene Bisque. His parents met while his mother was teaching off-world as an assistant conductor and lead concert pianist at Sol Conservatory of Primal Earthen Musical Studies on Vulcan when she met his father a visiting agricultural ministry student studying extreme farmland climatic adaptations.
The couple had a small residence in Vulcana Regar throughout most of their child's first year while they settled into family life and completed their remaining planetary commitments. It was time overdue to reconnect with a young growing family and so they returned to earth for three years near the Pacific Rim Hydro-Agricultural Engineering Institute's shore side campuses. During this time, Flip's younger sister Flora and their cousin Flop were born. It is unclear of the extenuating circumstances but cousin Flop lived off and on with Flip and Flora for extended times. Cousin Flop was perhaps a bit too wild and rogue at times, but nonetheless was always a happy and welcome addition to the adventurous three youths. This was all prior to the family's 'big move' and their father's fully launched career as a 'star farmer' on Starbase 12 where for 15 years they would remain. All three children moved with the Thatcher family and for a number of years Flip, Flop and Flora were affectionately known as the high-jinx rascals of Starbase 12. Here their father Merc or aka 'Dr Muds Thatcher' provided soils consultation to Agricultural Ministry colonists and support for en-transit crops and various experimental cultivation techniques at agrarian outposts. Their mother, Charlene Bisque was the program director for music and cultural events at Starbase 12 and many additional starfleet facilities across the sector. However, in time, a yearning desire to return home to earth eventually took hold for the emptying nesters and they chose to settle into quiet retirement back near their family on Earth. Now the young adult Flip Thatcher had seen so much of Starfleet adventures in his childhood off-world that a science career on the distant colonies almost felt pre-destined. This initially took the form of a strong academic core formation during his childhood years at Starbase 12 followed by a civilian academic education at Malcom's on Betazed and a three year post-graduate terraforming advancement project at Blue Horizon. At Blue Horizon he met a passing stellar cartography team on leave and was thoroughly inspired to apply to Starfleet Academy to serve the federation and possibly contribute to advances in these emerging technologies. This path became more clear as he pursued his studies by continuing his strong background in terraforming but gradually shifting his research efforts toward stellar cartography, particularly with the development of the Rocheen arrays that enabled 27-42% increases in imagery distance and clarification. The recent modified arrays allow long range 4 dimensional spatial-temporal mapping to extend far further into uncharted territories then previously though attainable and with modifications can be adapted to warp-craft to provide enhanced navigation and ranging functions under certain favorable high warp conditions. The seductive lure to see more, to peak around the corner, drew Flip Thatcher out beyond the Alpha quadrant, out to Pinastri Colony and eventually to the Astraios Colony where he continues his Starfleet Studies and his applied academic research in the fields of stellar cartographic array construction and emerging technologies in agricultural supportive terraformation. It has been many years of preparation but Flip Thatcher's major contributions to Starfleet and the Gamma Quadrant are just beginning to unfold. | |||||
