Biography
Dr. Sher Zhvek was born with deformed antennae and, therefore, shunned and abused by Andorian society. Her mother took her and left Andoria, ending up living on a Romulan freighter, the Vastgar Neirrh, as a merchant, cargo hauler, deep space salvager, and sometime pirate. Sher grew up learning to fix their dodgy warp core, drive, and other engineering systems and got exceedingly good at it. She also read extensively in numerous scientific fields. She earned her PhD in Warp Field Theoretics from Dashoma University on Andoria. Due to a perennially dodgy warp core, the Nierrh was often run at low power, resulting in low or no gravity, causing Sher to grow up very tall. For the last five years, she has been working mostly alone as a merchant/mercenary/small cargo ship operator and pilot/occasional archaeological ruins looter. She built her own cybernetic antennae; they provide an array of data well beyond that provided by natural Andorian antennae but with limited range, roughly a dozen meters. (Think Geordi LaForge's VISOR.) She claims she lost her antennae in an engineering accident (most people suspect she lost them in a bar fight). About her antennae: • Her antennae perform all the functions of a standard engineering Tricorder, but without the usual whirring sound. • They perform the functions of a standard communicator. She has built-in tech for overcoming most common security protocols. • They also have certain enhancements that can allow her to affect electronic devices in a number of ways. The less said about this, the better. • They also enhance her balance and agility, though not to a very great degree (just enough to give her a slight edge in a physical fight). • They are not easy to remove, being anchored to reinforced plugs built into her skull. However, they will snap off before her skull or neck can be injured. She can remove them at will. • Without them, her balance and agility are severely limited, as are her hearing and concentration. Growing up, her best friend and constant companion was Ael t'Vaius, Romulan daughter of their ship's chief engineer. They considered each other sisters. Ael died in an accident during the unlawful excavation of a Rigellian temple ruin. Her body was never found. Sher blamed the captain of the Nierrh for not taking the time needed to find her sister's body and left the ship to strike out on her own, soon after. She has not seen her mother since.
