Summary:

Of the species that make up the Galactic Alliance, the Kindred Commonwealth is believed to be one of their more protected client states. The details were given by one of their Emissaries, Matriarch Sleetha. Some 2,000 years ago a species believed to be distantly related to humans (See Also: 'The Preservers') appeared and laid waste to the Kindred's original homeworld, enslaving them. A group of Kindred called the Founders escaped the devastated planet in sublight ships and established colonies in the Staplin Nebula. Because of this history, the Kindred harbor a deep distrust of others and especially species that resemble humans, which they regard as Daemons.

Timeline:

First Knowledge: Stardate 100923 by U.S.S. Goddard whom scanned a Kindred Boarder Defense Platform.

First Contact: Stardate 110122 by U.S.S. Sheppard whom opened discussions with a Kindred Emissary.

Subsequent Contacts on Stardate 110717 and 121218 in which Kindred military forces were observed in action.

Culture:

The Kindred believe in the Duality - "the God who is Two, the Two who are God." Not much else is known of their culture in general. They have firmly entrenched their civilization in and around the Staplin Nebula and it's immediate surrounding 5 light years. Distant observations would indicate they have claimed some 1,000 cubic light-years as their sovereign territory. Their military is believed to be geared toward defense by specializing heavily in surgical strikes with sheer, overwhelming firepower. They rely on the Alliance for external security while retaining large amounts of military resources and technology to defend their home territory. As a result very few Kindred military forces have been directly observed, mostly single ships and strike teams acting in support of their benefactors, the Kitsu'Ne. This is indicative of their paranoid nature.

Technology:

Despite being a member of the alliance, as a paranoid culture under Alliance protection they retain their own independent defense forces. They have been known to send warships and strike teams to assist Alliance fleets as per their obligation as an Alliance member.

The limited information on them is from brief first-hand encounters. What can be confirmed is that they are extremely advanced in the realm of armor technology. Their ships lack heavy shielding and fast warp engines, but their hull armor is comprised of an ultra-dense crystalline armor of some form of Titanium/Tantalum/Carbon alloy that reflects sensor scans and is resistant to phaser fire. Most shocking was that it was seen to withstand direct hits from a pair of Starfleet Quantum Flux Torpedoes, blowing out only the outer armor panels and inflicting moderate damage to underlaying systems. The warship in question was then able to maneuver, recapture a Federation Starship, and effortlessly tow it to Pinastri Prime.

On Stardate 110717, a Kindred Warship was seen for the first time along with power-armored Kindred shock troops from their elite LEO-9 Corps. The ship's composite armor was scanned for the first time, and it was discovered that their power-armor is covered in a similar material.

The troopers wore massive, thick-plated power armor that enabled them to force their way through sealed doors and bulkheads through brute force and proved very resilient to massed Phaser Fire and close-proximity explosions. Despite encountering heavy resistance and suffering repeated sustained hits from Type-III Compression Phaser Rifles, no casualties were inflicted and only 2 suits showed signs of damage that impaired their operation after an hour-long running battle. After crew from the U.S.S. Banshee observed similar power-armored infantry during their encounter, it can be surmised that these suits form the core of the Alliance (or at least the Kindred) elite forces.

Kindred Military Forces that have currently been encountered to date:

Kindred Second Tier Border Defense and Sensor Platform - First Encountered: Stardate 100923 by USS Goddard (NPC Ship) Length: 200m, Height: 30m, Width: 70m. Decks: Unknown. Hull Design: Metallic alloy armored hull of unknown composition that scatters sensor scans. Primary Weapon: Automated Subspace Sensor Array of incredible power and accuracy. Secondary Weapon: Unknown. Believed to be a mix of Phasers, missiles, and projectile guns using magnetic acceleration (Rail Gun). Notes: The Kindred, despite being a member of the Alliance, use notably different technology. The station appeared to be a remote-operated automated weapons/sensor platform controlled by an Artificial Intelligence System of unknown capability.

Kindred Ursa-Major Class Battle-Carrier - First Encountered: Knowledge acquired Stardate 121219 by Starfleet Intelligence. Length: Believed to be approximately 1 kilometer long. Decks: Unknown. Hull Design: Believed to have an armored hull of crystalline carbon/titanium-alloy composition that scatters sensor scans and is highly resistant to energy weapons. Primary Weapon: Believed to be a mix of phasers, railguns, and Missile Launchers. Secondary Weapon: Unknown. Believed to include Fighter and Dropship Launch Bays. Notes: Believed to be the mainstay heavy warship of the Kindred Defense Forces comparable to the rare Imperator Class Battleships used by the rest of the Alliance. As with other Kindred Warships, it is believed to be a heavily armored ship for its size described as a lozenge shape with a number of short but thick pylons supporting primitive Warp drive engines in armored nacelles.

Kindred Haruna-Class Light Cruiser - First Encountered: Stardate 110717 by USS Sheppard. Length: 350 meters, 150 meters beam, 30 meter height. Decks: Unknown. Hull Design: Armored hull of crystalline carbon/titanium-alloy composition that scatters sensor scans and is highly resistant to energy weapons and was seen to withstand direct hits from Quantum Torpedoes. Primary Weapon: Phased energy weapon of unknown design, railgun type weaponry was also observed. Secondary Weapon: Unknown. Fighter and Dropship Launch Bays were observed. Notes: Heavily armored ship for its size described as a lozenge shape with short but thick pylons supporting primitive Warp drive engines. Shields are weak compared to Starfleet technology, but the armor plating compensates. It is of an alien crystalline carbon/titanium-alloy that withstood several direct hits from Starfleet Quantum-Flux Torpedoes with moderate damage to underlaying systems. Despite noticeably short-range and endurance, it is suspected of being the mainstay Kindred Warship, normally used to patrol the heart of their territory in the Stapin Nebula.

Kindred Halcyon-Class Corvette - First Encountered: Stardate 121217 by USS Banshee. Length: 313 meters, 210 meters beam, 83 meter height. Decks: Unknown. Hull Design: Armored hull of crystalline carbon/titanium-alloy composition that scatters sensor scans and is resistant to directed energy weapons. Primary Weapon: Numerous X-Ray Particle Lasers and Missile Launchers. Secondary Weapon: Fighter and Dropship Launch Bays were observed. Notes: A leaner, faster, version of the Haruna Class ship used for quick-response work. Considerable weapons payload for its size, but still a capable warship comparable to a Federation Frigate.

Kindred Caestus-Class Boarding Craft - First Encountered: Stardate 110717 by USS Sheppard. Length: 50 meters. Decks: Estimated 2. Hull Design: Adamantium/Crystaline Armored Hull with reinforced ram prow. Primary Weapon: A twin-barreled heavy weapon of unknown type was seen but not observed in use. Secondary Weapon: Wing-mounted Missile Launchers with unknown type of warheads were seen but not observed in use. Notes: Heavily armored craft designed to deliver assault troops onto an enemy ship via ramming attack. Once embedded in the target, the prow opens to deploy power-armored shock troops whom then overwhelm the crew.

Kindred Assault-Class Power Armour - First Encountered: Stardate 110717 by USS Sheppard. Primary Weapon: 20 mm Twin-Barrel Duel-Fire Phased Energy and Projectile Weapons. Defense: 2.5 meter tall, 5-metric ton power amour layered with ultra-dense carbon/titanium alloy covered with a ceramic-like outer ablative layer extremely resistant to Phaser fire. Notes: The Elite of the Kindred Commonwealth, the LEO-9 Powered-Armour Corps are equipped with the latest and most advanced form of armor and weapons ever seen. The Assault Class is apparently designed for intense close-quarters combat and hostile-environment Boarding Actions.

Kindred Standard-Class Power Armour - First Encountered: Stardate 110717 by USS Sheppard. Primary Weapon: 20mm Duel-Fire Phased Energy and Projectile Weapon Carbine. Defense: 2 meter tall, 1.5-metric ton power armor layered with ultra-dense carbon/titanium alloy covered with a ceramic-like outer ablative layer extremely resistant to Phaser fire. Notes: The Elite of the Kindred Commonwealth, the LEO-9 Powered-Armour Corps are equipped with the latest and most advanced form of armor and weapons ever seen. The Standard-Class appears to form the backbone of the Corps with equal balance between protection and maneuverability.

Recommendations

Normally, when outside their territory when deploying with the rest of the Alliance, there will be a Kitsu'Ne Inquisitor in attendance whom will speak for them. See their entry for information.

If this is not the case, it is best to avoid direct contact with them. Should this be unavoidable, it is recommended to be extremely polite, and formal at all times. Avoid using Human or Human-like Personnel on the detail if possible. As no Diplomatic Relations yet exist between the Alliance and the Federation, Starfleet Regulations require that all Starfleet Personnel observe all First Contact protocols and the Prime Directive at all times.
